Anita Shreve

July Also-Rans

This month, the two books we did not choose to read were:

May Also-Rans

Two short story collections we did not decide to read this month were:

Wilderness Tips,

by Margaret Atwood

and

Winesburg, Ohio,
by Sherwood Anderson

April Also-Also-Rans

Since our theme was choosing an Also-Ran this month, does that make these two books also-also-rans? (Good enough to bring around a second time, I say!)

Animal Dreams
by Barbara Kingsolver

and

Fall On Your Knees,
by Ann-Marie MacDonald

March Also-Rans

Interesting titles not selected for this month were:

The Emperor's Children
by Claire Messud

and

Still Alice
by Lisa Genova

February Also-Rans

Another tough decision... we did not choose to read

The Teahouse Fire by Ellis Avery

and

Kate Vaiden by Reynolds Price

January Also-Rans

Millie brought us some interesting-sounding books which we did not select this month:

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson

and

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

December Also-Rans

Three Junes by Julia Glass

Amagansett by Mark Mills

November Also-Ran

To make up for last month's abundance of also-rans, this month we had only one reject. Unless you count the three we voted down before we even voted. Those won't be posted unless someone really wants to see them.

Lottery by Patricia Wood

October Also-Rans

This month, we have a three-fer! Three books instead of two to ignore, to lament that we aren't reading, or to read anyway, as you see fit!

Miracle at St. Anna, by James McBride

John: A Novel, by Niall Williams

The Dark Lantern, by Gerri Brightwell

September 2008 Also-Rans

For September, you may wish to read these alternate titles:

The Shack, by William P. Young

or

Flight of Passage, by Rinker Buck

August 2008 Also-Rans

Books we will not be reading (at least as a group) in August include:

Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver

and

July 2008 Also-Rans

The books we did not select for July were:

The Good Liar by Laura Caldwell

and

Two very intriguing titles were not chosen as our selection this month.

Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee
by Meera Syal

Prisoner of Tehran (A Memoir)
by Marina Nemat

May 2008 Also-Rans

Two very interesting looking books did not get chosen as our selection this month:

Fall On Your Knees,
by Ann-Marie MacDonald

Middlesex,
by Jeffrey Eugenides

April 2008 Also-Rans

It was tough to eliminate this month, but here's what we voted down:

The Glass Castle
by Jeanette Walls

Water for Elephants
by Sara Gruen

March 2008 Also-Rans

Just as nice, we are sure, but not destined to be this month's selection were:

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

The Bookman's Wake by John Dunning

February 2008 Also-Rans

Not selected this month were:

Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer

The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke
